Description and photograph accompanying Barry Morgan's Farewell Cocktail Party. 303 words.
A huge turnout of Liphook Golf Club members filled the clubhouse on Saturday 29 th October to say farewell to Barry and thank him for his 16 years of hard work and service to the Club. Our Captain Roderick More paid a fitting tribute to Barry's tenure as Secretary which echoed the sentiments of all those present. Mention was made of the fact that there had been only six secretaries in the 82 year history of the Club. When Barry joined us in 1989 it was the year when the Berlin Wall came down, Nick Faldo won the Masters, Michelle Wie was born and a big headed driver was someone who cut you up on the A3!. Barry's knowledge of the intricacies of golf club legislation, computerisation and the rules and traditions of golf have ensured that the Club has prospered over his years in office and won the high esteem that the club enjoys throughout the golfing world. His transfer across the courtyard to the Hampshire Golf Union Office will ensure that he will be able to remain in touch with us and hopefully we will see him playing golf at Liphook now that he will have more time available. Roderick also thanked Barry's wife Shirley who supported him in a job that made many demands on family life. Cornelia Kenington presented a bouquet to Shirley. This was followed by the presentation of the leaving presents to Barry together with a cheque for £1,730 which will go towards Barry and Shirley's planned visit to Boston U.S.A. Finally Roderick, on behalf of all members, thanked Barry for all that he had done for the Club and wished him every success in his new career in county golf. Roderick then handed over a leaving card designed by Tony Hinwood which was signed by all those present.
