Charity Day is always a fun day - with multiple starting point16 Aug s, the whole course was in use from the word go for the teams of three players. Three holes were played with the best score of one team member, three holes with the best two scores and three holes with all scores counting - then repeated, just to make sure everyone was awake! Gail drummed up loads of support from local traders and restaurants - the Links Hotel donated a luncheon and there was another at the Southdowns Hotel donated by Bob Mayhew, and a dinner at the Ghurkha Chautari; Somerfield donated wine and many ladies donated prizes. Several who weren't playing were also very generous. There were M & S tokens, chocolates, socks, wine, golf marker brooches - all tripled, enough prizes for eleven winning teams.
The winning team - Anna Large, Veronica Hargreaves and Carol Browse
There was also a very special raffle, with a main prize of a round of golf for three people at St. George's Hill. Lynn Legget, who donated it, suggested that it might be a good fund raiser for the Gail's charity, the Alzheimer's Society (for research), and this it certainly proved to be, for the proceeds of the raffle £210 and donations of £333 raised this to £543 for the day. So, with the extra £17 raised from the generous contributions for the book exchange scheme, the next cheque to be sent to the charity will be an amazing £560.
Jenny Selby won the top raffle prize, donated by Lynn Legget
